04 May Tue, 2010 God’s Devotion [ Ephesians 3:14 - 3:21 ] - hymn417 That you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend ... the love of Christ which passes knowledge. - Ephesians 3:17-19 In 1826, the British author Thomas Carlyle married Jane Welsh, who also was an accomplished writer. She dedicated herself to his success and served him wholeheartedly. Because of a stomach ailment and a nervous disorder, he had a rather ornery temperament. So she made special meals for him and tried to keep the house as quiet as possible so he could do his writing. Thomas didn’t often recognize Jane’s helpful spirit nor did he spend much time with her. However, he wrote this about her to his mother: “I may say in my heart that she . . . loves me with a devotedness which is a mystery to me how I have ever deserved. She . . . looks with such soft cheerfulness into my gloomy countenance, that new hope passed into me every time I met her eye.” We too have Someone who loves us with a devotedness that is a mystery how we as sinners ever deserved it! He is God the Father, “who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all” (Rom. 8:32). His love is wide, long, deep, and high and exceeds our knowledge (Eph. 3:18-19). Understanding and appreciating God’s love is so vital that Paul prayed for the Ephesians to be “rooted and grounded” in it (v.17). [20] Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, [21] to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. 2010년 05월 04일 (화) 하나님의 헌신 [ 에베소서 3:14 - 3:21 ] - 찬송가 417장 너희가 사랑 가운데서 뿌리가 박히고 터가 굳어져서...지식에 넘치는 그리스도의 사랑을 알아, 어떠함을 깨달아...－ 에베소서 3:17-19 1826년 영국의 작가 토마스 칼라일은 역시 저명한 작가였던 제인 웰쉬와 결혼했습니다. 그녀는 남편의 성공을 위해 헌신하였고 마음을 다하여 그를 섬겼습니다. 그는 위장 장애와 신경 쇠약으로 인하여 성격이 상당히 괴팍했습니다. 그래서 그녀는 그를 위해 특별한 음식을 만들었고 그가 집필을 할 수 있도록 가능한 한 집안을 조용하게 하려고 노력했습니다. 토마스는 제인의 그러한 마음을 알지 못하는 듯 했고, 그녀와 같이 보내는 시간 또한 그렇게 많지 않았습니다. 그러나 그는 자신의 어머니에게 그녀에 대해 다음과 같이 썼습니다. “저는 그녀가... 헌신적으로 나를 사랑한다는 것을 자신 있게 말할 수 있습니다. 제가 그러한 사랑을 받을 만한 가치가 전혀 없는데 그렇게 사랑해 주는 것이 정말 저에겐 신비합니다. 우울한 내 모습을 그녀가... 부드럽고 명랑한 눈으로 쳐다보면, 그 눈길을 마주 칠 때마다 새로운 희망이 제게 전달됩니다.” 사랑을 받을 만한 가치가 없는 죄인들임에도 불구하고 우리를 헌신적으로 사랑해 주시는 누구인가가 우리에게 있다는 것도 신비합니다. 바로 하나님 아버지이십니다. “자기 아들을 아끼지 아니하시고 우리 모든 사람을 위하여 내어 주신 이”(롬 8:32) 이십니다. 그의 사랑은 끝이 없고, 넓으며, 깊고 또 높아서 능히 헤아릴 수가 없습니다(엡 3:18-19). 하나님의 사랑을 이해하고 감사하는 것은 너무나 중요하기에 바울은 에베소 성도들에게 그 사랑 안에 “뿌리가 박히고 터가 굳어지라”(17절)라고 간구했습니다. 우리도 그렇게 되기를 간구합니다.     하늘에 계신 내 아버지 하나님을 언제나 신뢰할 수 있다네 그가 변치 아니하시고 항상 같으시기 때문이라네 어제나, 오늘도, 영원히 그는 신실하시며 나를 사랑하심을 알기에 그의 거룩하신 이름을 경배하네 하나님이 당신을 사랑한다는 것을 아는 것보다 더 큰 기쁨은 없다 에베소서 3:14-21 [14] 이러므로 내가 하늘과 땅에 있는 각 족속에게 [15] 이름을 주신 아버지 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 비노니 [16] 그의 영광의 풍성함을 따라 그의 성령으로 말미암아 너희 속사람을 능력으로 강건하게 하시오며 [17] 믿음으로 말미암아 그리스도께서 너희 마음에 계시게 하시옵고 너희가 사랑 가운데서 뿌리가 박히고 터가 굳어져서 [18] 능히 모든 성도와 함께 지식에 넘치는 그리스도의 사랑을 알고 [19] 그 너비와 길이와 높이와 깊이가 어떠함을 깨달아 하나님의 모든 충만하신 것으로 너희에게 충만하게 하시기를 구하노라 [20] 우리 가운데서 역사하시는 능력대로 우리가 구하거나 생각하는 모든 것에 더 넘치도록 능히 하실 이에게 [21] 교회 안에서와 그리스도 예수 안에서 영광이 대대로 영원무궁하기를 원하노라 아멘
